Summary; Google feels that windows vista is a perfectly satisfactory operating system, even though they(microsoft), stole most of their ideas from the Mac. Despite this the Mac will always do a better job than the PC. Windows Vista is not even significantly better than XP (it's predecessor). Vista will eventually fail.

Note to reader. I am an Avid Vista User, couldn't imagine what life was like before it. ;)

1. I Turned of Aero

   Aero is that pointless thing that makes the windows transparent in windows. Right click on the desktop click Personalize>Windows colour and Appearance>turn of transparency.

2. I sorted Out my Start Menu

        Any program that didn't need to start (and most of them don't) I took out.

3. I updated/verified all all my drivers

   Just open up your command prompt. And type in "Verifier" this will run the Hidden driver verify manager which will detect and solve all your problems!

4. I Defragmented my External and internal Hard drives.

5. I used the ready Boost feature

   This is probably one of the most innovative things in Windows Vista. It enables you to use spare flash memory on USB 2.0 drives Or SD cards to offset some computer Processes and take some pressure of a Struggling RAM.

Pantheon has come up with a Hack that is supposed to help Vista Users who have not been able to activate their product keys After SP1 update.

Microsoft's Vista SP1 is due to go out any moment from now. If you have been using vista for the last few months, you should (like me) be relatively excited.

Windows Vista has been slammed for being significantly slower than XP, the operating system it was meant to replace.

I have no complaints about Vista Sp1 however what caught my eye today is this paragraph I read from the Microsoft website.

When the update is installed, no functionality of your operating system will be affected. If no activation exploits are detected, the update silently exits. If activation exploits are detected, you will be provided a link to a Web site that describes how you can remove the activation exploits. When the activation exploits are removed, you may be asked to use a valid product key to activate your copy of Windows. If you do not want to remove the activation exploits, Windows may disable the activation exploits and then ask you to use a valid product key to activate Windows.

What this means is, if you used third party software to avoid/bypass the validation of your product Key. You will be asked to submit a valid product key to download Sp1.

Cheaters never win with Microsoft. The same thing happened with SP2/3 of windows XP. People should know by now that eventually if you want to experience all the benefits of Vista. You have to pay. Bill Gates could use the extra cash to get back on top as the richest man.

When you finally get fed up with the simplemindedness of Google search and finally decide to explore other options take a look at Ergo.

I believe its time we learn to move on from the simplicity of Google search and Use more creative and visually appealing ways to process, analyse and share our searches. I see Ergo as an opportunity for the tech savvy users, like people who publish blogs and people who use sites like Digg and Technorati to have another way of finding information on the Web and even their own PC's.

The only issues I have with it are that currently it only works in Vista, which is not the most popular of operating systems. 

I have been testing the beta version, and I must admit the interface is very easy to use and the search results are presented in ways that will have even the most Avid Google users Salivating. This is definitely one piece of free Vista software worth looking into. And you can be sure I will be keeping an eye on it.

When Vista was launched they said it was going to be so secure, we probably wouldn't need an anti virus program at all. for once I think Microsoft is right (and I say this with caution). I have been using Vista for almost six months or probably more, and I have had no security scares,neither have I heard of any major vista infections. But this could also be due to the fact that the operating system hasn't taken off yet, and is still playing second fiddle to XP. What surprises me most is that, with all the vista haters that are out there, isn't it a surprise that no one has managed to come up with a proper virus?

In no particular order I would like to suggest 5 excellent security packages that can secure your windows PC.

1. CA Anti-Virus -  I use CA Anti  virus Myself so i can testify to its strength and ease of use. I  will be honest, I chose CA because it comes free for 1 year  no strings attached full software and it works seamlessly with Vista.
2. Kaspersky Anti-Virus Products traditional anti-virus protection based on the latest protection technologies. You can work, communicate, surf the Internet and play online games on your computer safely and easily. and it is Vista Compatible
3. Windows live one care - If you are into Microsoft products then you might as well stick to the name you know and you trust, Microsoft's in house Anti virus program, I would have loved to say its the best for the Job. But truth be told  I have not had the opportunity to try it out (mainly because its not free) however you can get a (0 day free trial.
4. Mcafee VirusScan - Good old Fashioned Mcafee. Mcafee has won every award there is when it comes to protecting PC's.The software received the VB100% award for 2007, the ICSA award for 2007 and passed both level 1& 2 Checkmarks from West Coast Labs. So truth be told its probably the most reliable one of the lot but i wouldn't put my money on it. Something about the name doesn't sound right to me.
5. Bit defender - Is a great anti virus software that has been optimized for gamers. If you are running Games on your Pc the last thing you want is a bulky slow lumbering anti virus program slowing you down. This one I think is dedicated to Gamers and their PC's.

I just realized whilst doing my daily topic research this morning, that I do not actually own my copy of windows Vista.Shock horror! I was  contemplating upgrading to Linux's Ubuntu Operating system, when I stumbled upon some interesting facts. let me share with you.

• Windows Vista, like previous versions of Windows, is proprietary software: leased to you under a license that severely restricts how you can use it, and without source code, so nobody but Microsoft can change it or even verify what it really does. If you take your time to read your software licence you will probably find Microsoft says something like this, "The software is licensed, not sold. This agreement only gives you some rights to use the software. Microsoft reserves all other rights. Unless applicable law gives you more rights despite this limitation, you may use the software only as expressly permitted in this agreement. In doing so, you must comply with any technical limitations in the software that only allow you to use it in certain ways."
• Even after you purchase vista from a shop and you install it on Your PC you cannot inthe future ,legally install it on another PC even if its yours as well.
• Windows Defender has the right to delete programs that it thinks are spywqare. Yes YOU give it that right by not reading the terms and conditions and signing away your rights and privileges.
• You consent to being spied upon by Microsoft, through the “Windows Genuine Advantage” system. This system tries to identify instances of copying that Microsoft thinks are illegitimate. Unfortunately, a recent study indicated that this system has already screwed up in over 500,000 cases. (John Sullivan)
• Then of course there is DRM (Digital rights management) this is a technology that Big Media and computer companies try to impose on us all, in order to have control over how our computers are used. there is no limit to the greed of these companies.
• They decide which programs you can and can't use on your computer
• They decide which features of your computer or software you can use at any given moment
• They force you to install new programs even when you don't want to (and, of course, pay for the privilege)
• They restrict your access to certain programs and even to your own data files . God help us

What has happened to consumer rights? We have signed them all away (myself included). Its like buying a car , and having the manufacturer tell you that you cannot drive it here or there and you can not let your Kids drive it because you bought it, and you can not change the color because we (the car company ) think it looks better in green. What a load of B*&s!*t. When was the last time you actually took the time to read the terms and conditions on any software you recently bought? in fact we trust these big companies so much that even if they asked us to sign of our homes to them before we could install Windows Vista or MAC OS/x we would, without even a second thought.

Can someone please send me a copy of UBUNTU (alfyopare@gmail) ? I tried downloading it but I couldn't install it. I need to Run away from Mr Gates and Mr Jobs.

 Now we all know Vista Has been struggling and Microsoft has done its level best to help its customers by offering a downgrade to XP. In deed XP has been without a doubt Microsoft's most successful operating system to date. It ain't broke so why fix it?

Microsoft is planning a third service pack release for XP users that will incorporate some of the features of its Beleaguered Vista operating system into XP.

Although XP SP3 does contain a number of bug fixes and patches released since SP2—1,073, to be exact—it also incorporates several Vista features that are being back-ported into the XP operating system. Specifically, these features include:

• Network Access Protection (NAP): This is a policy enforcement platform meant for enterprise use that inspects systems attempting to access a corporate network to ensure they meet whatever security criteria the corporation has in place. If systems fail to meet the necessary criteria, they can be updated or blocked from using the network, depending on the nature of the flaw.
• New Product Activation module: Just as in Vista, users will be able to install XP without entering a product key at installation.
• "Black Hole" Router Detection: A black hole router is a router that drops packets without returning the specified Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) response. This feature aids in detecting and protecting the end user from such a problem. Previously, according to Microsoft documents, reliable detection of a black hole router involved use of an appropriately configured "ping" command, followed by further manual commands for working around the problem.
• Microsoft Kernel Cryptographic Module: This feature incorporates cryptographic algorithms in a single module other kernel mode drivers are capable of hooking into and accessing.  - Joel Hruska.

XP users beware of service pack 3, its going to turn your PC into some sort of Vista Clone. why cant Microsoft bring some of the better things in XP back into Vista?

To all my readers who like myself have taken a gamble and installed windows Vista on a not so ready system , and are now struggling for performance. Here are 5 things you can switch of in windows vista that wont hurt a fly!

1. Turn off search indexing -  Although it is very helpful I must admit .Vista search indexing constantly works in the background and takes up allot of valuable resources. - -

To disable constant indexing:

        * Click Start then Computer
        * Right Click the C: Drive or any other drive that you wish to prevent indexing of
        * On General Tab, Uncheck Index this drive for faster searching
        * On the subsequent dialog box, Select Include subfolders and files.

Turn off Automatic windows defender operation -  with all the firewalls and security built into IE7 and firefox these days its almost impossible for Spyware to get passed and remember Vista comes with a firewall built in as standards so, i don't really know why this feature was put in in the first place.

To disable this feature:

        * Open Control Panel
        * Select Windows Defender
        * Choose Tools from the top menu
        * Select Options
        * Uncheck Auto Start at the bottom of the window

3. Turn off Automatic Disk Defragmentation
    Windows Vista and its always-on defragment feature isn’t really that necessary and can cause system slow down. Just remember to run a defrag manually every week or so.

    To disable this:

        * Click Start then Computer
        * Right Click the C: Drive
        * Click on Properties
        * Select the Tools Tab
        * Click on Defragment Now
        * Uncheck Run on a schedule

4. Turn off Windows Hibernation - Windows hibernation background services can use a large amount of system resources. If you don’t use the Hibernate feature on a regular basis you may want to disable it to give Vista a performance boost.

    To disable Hibernation:

        * Select the Control Panel then Power Options
        * Click Change Plan Settings
        * Click on Change Advanced Power Settings
        * Expand the Sleep selection
        * Expand the Hibernate After selection
        * Crank the selector down to zero
        * Click Apply

5. Turn off System Restore
    Analysis and restore point creation by Windows Vista can eat a fair amount of system resources. Disabling this service will obviously mean the system restore feature in Vista will not be available in the event of a system crash. Change this at your own risk.

    To disable this service:

        * Control Panel>System
        * Click System Protection on the left panel
        * Uncheck the main system drive
        * Agree to the confirmation

After this you should see a significant improvement in performace.
