    What "Vista Capable" Really means.

    Using Wndows Vista is Torture

A Microsoft product manager couldn't correctly explain the "Vista Capable" marketing slogan, according to recent filings in a lawsuit that claims the company misled consumers with a prerelease Vista campaign last year - PC world

I will attempt to explain what Vista Capable really means. Maybe Microsoft will  give me that poor guys Job.

    • Vista capable actually means "Vista incapable". Most computers that were Tagged Vista Capable could only run the most irrelevant version of Vista.
    • The term Vista capable was actually coined to help PC manufacturers offload older machines which would become obsolete when the new OS was released.
    • Any PC which sports the Vista capable badge will actually run better on XP or much better on Linux.

If you bought a PC labelled Vista capable and found out you had been mislead, I would advise you to join the class action suit which is currently going on in the US. It is alleged that Windows Vista Capable stickers the company put on PCs violated consumer protection laws and were an example of deceptive business practices.

"The suit also calls into question the fairness of Microsoft's "Express Upgrade" coupon program that allowed users to upgrade to Vista from XP machines for little or no cost after buying a "Windows Vista Capable" machine." - PC world

Microsoft has been reeling from the backlash following massive consumer disappointment, after the release of Vista. Microsoft is currently giving some dissatisfied customers the option of downgrading to XP pro. I think Microsoft should do an entire product recall on Vista. it could end up costing them millions if they wait too long.

10 reasons why Google runs on Linux

I was rather fascinated by an article that I read on Wired today. I've always known Linux was a great operating system, but the thought that Google was running its entire network of over 10,000 servers on Linux! What a plus for Linux. So why would a monster like Google entrust its entire network to an open source operating system?Michael Dell Looks Different in a Tux

    1. Cost - Linux is free. You don't need any sort of licence whatsoever to run Linux on your PC/Server. It makes financial sense that a company like Google can save millions by using Linux.
    2. Linux is worry free - Well, almost. At least you don't have to worry about loosing product keys.
    3. Linux is so clever - Unlike windows you never need to run disk defragmentation. Maybe it's because its been designed by lots of clever people not just a few Geek's, no.An army of Geek's. Now that cant be bad.
    4. Linux has less Bugs - Well I cant confirm this but that's what most of the geek's at Wired and Cnet will tell you.
    5. Linux is the best anti piracy software - At Linux everyone shares. There are no issues about piracy. Copying and sharing are actually encouraged.
    6. Linux has no language Barriers - Linux has been developed in almost every language on earth.
    7. Linux is great for computers with low processing power and is scalable from the PDAs to mobile phones and computers.
    8. Google servers are almost always up and running because they are run on Linux which is ultra reliable.
    9. Linux can run a higher number of processes at the same time, at full speed, while Windows slows down when more processes run on the server.
    10. Linux is specifically designed to accommodate heavy traffic and server load, can host multiple Web sites and multiple applications without problems. which is exactly what a monster like Google needs.

Linux has its fair share of issues, since I upgraded to the latest version of Linux's Ubuntu, I have had problems going online which I find rather surprising for an operating system that virtually runs the Internet.

Will you trust Microsoft to backup your brain?

No. I would prefer a more open source approach, maybe Linux, but then anybody could write software for my brain even without my permission. no, I think I will go with apple instead, much more trendy and less likely to crash I think, no I hope.

These are the type of questions we will be trying to answer in a few years time when we can actually record our entire life in full multimedia video, voice and text.

Microsoft is currently researching  this concept. The program is called MyLifeBits. It is still currently in the research phase however, the possibilities of this type of technology are mind boggling and the applications are too scary to comprehend.

When complete the idea is to make it possible to record every aspect of your life using a camera that you wear and a microphone. The camera is activated any time it senses you have company or when it detects that you need to take a photograph or record a video. It will also record all your conversations.

    • Imagine a future when even after you are dead people can access your memories. Your ancestors several generations down the line can hear you screaming as you gave birth to their fathers, fathers, father.
    • Police, with the permission of the courts access your memories, and check you Alibi.
    • You can upload your life on your website/blog and get some mindless people to pay to watch your life.
    • Google can index and search your memory Archives so you never lose your car keys again
    • Employers can finally find out exactly what you were like at your old Job.
    • If you lose your memory in an accident you could simply restore your memory using your previously saved restore point. (If you remembered to create one)

I don't even want to fathom what could happen if your memory crashed. And if you died, would you see the "blue screen of death"?

Review someone else's Blog/website on Stumbleupon.com and get a 10,000 hits to yours tonight.

    stmble1

Many blogger's have over looked the importance of stumbleupon.com when it comes to promoting their blogs and attracting more traffic. Truth be told stumbleupon.com can be the most power full tool in your arsenal when building a website or a blog. I have realized that all of my articles which have been reviewed on stumbleupon have done extremely well.

I had one article which in fact had 7 reviews on stumbleupon and 4 of them were not actually very good, but the effect was tremendous! I was able to get 10,000 hits to that article alone.

Fellow blogger's this is an awesome opportunity. Its simple and its free. And you don't have to write a whole essay. Even 5 lines will do.

    Here is my strategy.

        1. First of course, write a short review about this post or this blog on stumbleupon.
        2. Once you have written the review post a comment to this article saying that you have reviewed this post/blog.
        3. Remember to leave a link to your own Blog or website in your comment.(it would help if you dropped a email address as well.)
        4. Once I have confirmed your review on stumbleupon, I will immediately review your blog/post on my stumbleupon page.
        5. Now this is the best part. Once you review my blog/post, I will post a link to your website at the bottom of this article.
        6. The next person who reads this blog will be required to review 3 of the blogs/website's at the bottom of this page (i.e Assuming there are three blogs posted at the bottom of the page if not well done you are among the first!).
        7. If you are clever you will quickly realize the potential this has to virally increase traffic to your blog.

    How to stumble

    1. If you don't have a stumbleupon.com account click here to sign up its free and fast.
    2. Once you have downloaded the stumbleupon toolbar use this button on your tool bar to stumbleupon this pagestumble .or alternatively you could just click on this button.StumbleUpon My StumbleUpon Page
    3. A window should pop up which will allow you to quickly review  this blog.

    Your link will appear on this page;

    • samplelink.com (dont review this its just a sample).

Now all you have to do once your link appears here is to sit back and watch your traffic grow exponentially over the next 24 hours. There is no harm in trying . it wont cost you a penny. just 5 minutes of your time for a life time of traffic. think of what you could do with that extra traffic.

Why video calling will never catch on.

    Skype Me!

I remember the good old days quite a while ago when it became possible to make a phone call to your your mum and she could see you at the same time. What a  huge leap forward it was going to be, and all that hype we get when there is some new technology that someone wants to sell us by hook or crook.

The video phone in all its forms wether it be through Skype, your mobile phone your windows live messenger, or even through your regular phone line, is arguably the most unwanted technology of all time.

      1. Why do I say this. Well, most technology that really makes it in the consumer market is normally successful based on one particular thing. Necessity. This even explains why the current Hottest selling gadget the iPhone has no video calling features.
      2. Consumers are a very interesting bunch, we don't just buy technology for nothing. We buy stuff to make us look cool (the iPhone), we buy stuff that will keep us entertained (Nintendo Wii), we don't simply buy stuff because it's packed with the latest technology.
      3. I for one simply do not want people to see my face when I'm calling. Not because I'm ugly no far from that, but because waking up in the morning to take a video call is just not practical and I don't want mom to find out who I ended up in bed with the previous night.
      4. I want to be able to pick up the phone whiles I'm in the toilet, and say to my business partner that I'm chairing an important meeting (which wouldn't be a lie of course).
      5. And what would i say to all those annoying telemarketers? " hello sir I can see your wall paper is coming off, would you be interested in some new wallpaper? "

Video calling in all its forms is simply expensive, or simply impractical. Its not going to work .
