5 Squarespace features you will love.
Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 09:21AM This website is built on the Squarespace publishing platform. If you are trying to make a decision to start up your own blog, take a free trial of Squarespace. Last year I wrote 10 reasons why Squarespace is better than blogger/Wordpress where i tried to compare the three platforms. However, back then i didn't and i still don't know too much about Wordpress. I am a becoming a bit of a expert on Squarespace though. Here are some Squarespace features you probably wont find so easy to implement on another publishing platform.
- Podcasting Support - You can easily add a podcast to any entry, straight from the user interface. Readers can download your podcast or subscribe to your podcast feed. I haven't used that feature yet on my blog but its nice to know its there.
- Smart log Analysis - The Squarespace platform offers the most comprehensive site visitor traffic analysis available. Gives you all the info. like Where are my visitors from? what are they reading? how did they get here? how long did they stay. All this is built into your website. You don't need to install any code or download any software.
- Multiple Editors - Squarespace allows you room for expansion. Imagine the day when you have 3 people writing for your blog, in 3 different countries. Squarespace allows you to give multiple editors different access to different parts of your site. Making it easy to allow even visitors to publish content to your site without any security issues.
- Integrated full website search. - Google also does this very well. However, Google can't beat Squarespace at their own game. The Squarespace search module is built into the structure and design of your website and it indexes everything ever published on your site effortlessly.
- Dynamic layouts - The presentation of your site is independent of its content, allowing you to switch the style of your site without having to worry about your site "breaking". In other words you can change your site design on the fly without having to adjust the content to fit your new style.
Power and Simplicity is the Squarespace calling card. Squarespace probably has far more features than you'd ever use. That's okay though, because that means you've got room to grow into your website, as opposed to being limited by a one-dimensional tool.- Squarespace

7 Things which will not survive the next two decades.

The IPhone
- Now before you run off and go cry foul on your own blog hear me out. Twenty years from now there will be no camera phones or music phones or portable PC's these devices will all be bundled into one fully functional multi-communicational entertainment device which will have all the strengths of the later devices but none of their weaknesses. And for your information, the IPhone was not a revolutionary device. In terms of technology it brought nothing new to the table. in terms of design . Maybe. The Petrol/Diesel Car
. Within the next 20 years it will be so expensive to maintain and run a petrol/diesel car that only the most Hardened car enthusiasts will drive these cars. Have a look at this chart.
In the UK within the last 7 years petrol prices have gone up more than 50% !. Push this chart forward another 20 years and factor in the dwindling natural resources and prices could shoot up over 500% in the next 20 years. Cars, as we know them will be history soon . Enjoy them whiles you can.Yahoo!Yawhat?
Yahoo is dying. Yahoo has been dying for the last 10 years. I'm surprised no one saw it coming. What do they do anyway? and what is it? maybe its some sort of web portal thingeygig, which will introduce you to the rest of the web then you never have to come back to them. Yahoo will eventually get swallowed up by some ignorant Private equity firm or some sort of financial institution which will try and turn it into a Bank or worse an off licence, fail, then sell it to the Chinese.Out the "Windows "
lets face it windows does not work properly. And even that is putting it mildly.Windows and especially Vista is shit. How can you create an operating system that cripples itself after every update? How can you justify an ideology that tells you what you can or cannot do with digital media stored on your own computer? How can you allow a company to sell you software, and then tell you, (in the fine print) that you don't actually own it? Microsoft holds the full rites to the operating system they sell to you. They can modify it or delete it from your PC if they wish. What happened to consumer right's? I guess it went out the window. The Church of England
.
Now before I proceed let me say that i have no hatred towards gay people. The bible tells us to love one another just as Christ loved the church. But the bible also clearly states in Leviticus chapter 18:22;
You shall not lie with a man , as with a woman, for this is an Abomination...
The Church of England is right to show love to gay people however, the bible frowns upon such relationships. Therefore it should not be encouraged. At least not in the church. The Bible is so clear about this. I am referring to the ordination of gay bishops in the church of England that has split the church into two and will eventually destroy the Church
6.
The standalone camera
This is a technology which has really come into its own within the last three decades However, thanks to advanced digital electronics it is now possible to squeeze a 5 mega pixel camera into a tiny mobile phone, making it unnecessary to have a dedicated camera.
7.
Britney Winehouse
20 years from now the Amy Winehouses and the Britney Spears's of our time will be the examples we use to correct our children when they become famous and it gets to their heads. Those two fantastic singers may not be around very long if they don't change. And you don't need a degree in Psychology to figure that one out. what is it with Pop stars and drugs anyway?

Why can't I sell anything on Amazon ?
Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 12:23PM Are you an Amazon Affiliate? I need your Help.
I am probably the most Useless Amazon Affiliate ever. Honestly, I'm surprised Amazon Hasn't kicked me out of their affiliate program altogether. My stats are so bad they are impressive.
I have sold 2 books and 1 Casserole Dish bringing my earnings to £2.31.
This is amusing . Why ? well, since I started this blog in August/September 2007 I have never done a single blog post about food, nor have I mentioned cooking utensils. Heck, I couldn't even tell the difference between a casserole dish and a frying pan if you asked me.
Here I am Blogging about Technology and the Internet and all the advances that I think I know a lot about but I'm selling Casserole dishes and " A guide to good English. I should be selling books about blogging and windows Vista .
Did you know you can get books for £1
on Amazon? and I'm not talking about used books.
I love Amazon
Amazon was the first site I ever bought stuff online from. Amazon is the best quickest and safest online experience.
So can anyone tell me why I can't make a decent sale on Amazon? I think it all boils down to the fact Internet users are so sophisticated these days you literally have to beg people to click on a link. (I am not begging).
I think its time I did some massive Amazon Campaigning. Is there any super affiliate out there who knows how to crack Amazon?

Shark week at Techjaws
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 02:05PM Yesterday Alfred Saforo's Journal was reviewed on Techjaws my Favorite technology Blog.
It was shorter than I anticipated but certainly much better than nothing. It was a good review though and my blog scored high marks on all categories except for content . Not that the content isn't good but that I need to write more and do that more frequently. Its Hard to maintain a blog when it's not your full time Job. If someone could pay me enough to blog then maybe, I could give up my Night Job and commit more to blogging.
If you need to get reviewed on Techjaws hurry its free its not going to last forever.
