10 reasons why your Blog/website gets less and less traffic from Stumbleupon.

stumb

I have been observing with silent amusement at one of the most popular threads in forums these days. All across the web it's, stumble this and stumble that. After some time one or two poor blokes in the forum/group will wonder why they are not getting as much traffic as they got the first time they got stumbled.

I have been using Stumbleupon myself to drive traffic to my website for months now, and I actually discovered it on my own by mistake whiles checking out my traffic sources. Stumbleupon is amazing at driving traffic to website's, I mean free traffic and back links. The back-links are probably even more important, as they do wonders for your search engine rankings.

Stumbleupon's Algorithm Cracked.(how it works)

Well first of all I am no expert on algorithms but I have been trained to be very observant. You see being a Geophysicist is all about observation and trend spotting. This is what I have observed about Stumbleupon.

    1. A stumble from the same person/IP address, for the same website over and over , will trigger a flag and traffic to this site will reduce significantly up to 90% with time.
    2. Stumble exchanges are increasingly ineffective over time, unless the exchanges are one sided and one party is not getting any back in return.
    3. One or two isolated stumbles by  two or three isolated unused/unpopular stumble accounts will result in little or no traffic.
    4. To become popular, a web page once stumbled should receive several Stumbles from well known or good Stumblers within a short space of time . Normally less than 24 hours.
    5. Placing your web page/ site in the wrong category using keywords will get you the wrong sort of traffic and will eventually kill of your traffic as multiple users begin to thumb you down.
    6. Some keywords carry more traffic than others.
    7. The more stumble reviews you get, the more the traffic that will be directed towards your page.
    8. A thumb down with a review is of more value than than a thumb up with no review.
    9. Stumblers love pictures, they don't hang around long enough for text.
    10. After receiving  a flood of traffic from Stumbleupon, when your traffic goes down or "stumble's" go to Stumbleupon and buy some traffic. It will kick start your campaign. trust me.

As I said in the beginning these are just some trends that I have observed over time. I could be wrong. However, I am confident that if you can find a way around all these rules you should beat the algorithm and get thousands of visitors to your blog.

I set up a Stumble forum on this website, where people can recommend their latest posts or articles to me so that I  (or anyone else) can stumble. I don't expect to be stumbled in return on this forum. This  should encourage people to stumble posts  not for exchange but for quality.

Stumbleupon is all about discovering quality.

Interesting observations. I haven't tried out stumbleupon in awhile but I should go stumbleupon myself and you.

I don't ask for stumble backs too often and try to stumble others... sometimes when asked, other times just because I liked the post (I stumbled this one).

I'm still figuring out stumbleupon thanks for the info.

Great info. It pretty much fits right into what I was beginning to notice since I've been involved in the daily stumbles.

It certainly does make sense.I was especially wondering about the affects of stumbling the same post over and over. My traffic has certainly been tapering off.

I've hesitated to join your forum, because I don't know what I'm doing yet, and I didn't want to screw it up for others.

Anyway, great post. Thanks!

I've been using stumbleupon for a little bit and I find a lot of good content that I would not of found on my own from just surfing the net with no stumble toolbar and I hope the content only improves as users use it properly as well. I do love the photo blogs that I find there...
