The perfect headline: Will Ron Paul Kill Microsoft for Linux free ?

Today I decided to investigate what it would take to write the most successful headline for the two social book marking sites that deliver almost 75% of my traffic. And of course Google.

I have studied with great interest the topics that get good responses on Stumbleupon and Digg.

I have learnt some very good lessons about writing headlines for these sites that will surprise you and  trust me, any article with anyone of these key words well written, would guarantee you some much needed attention from these web sites.

I have created this Headline containing the words which I have seen continuously come up with huge responses over the last couple of weeks or so. 1. let me explain;

Ron Paul

- I wrote a short article in my last post about Ron Paul and posted it on Digg as an experiment for today's Article. I got 21 Diggs for that article alone in less than 24 hours, which is much better than any other article I have ever written although, Dare I say it wasn't my best. So what is happening here? You see Digg has temporarily been taken over by Ron Paul Political Zealots who have vowed to Digg any story that Has A whiff of "Ron" in it. I don't really care if they choose to bury my article after this, I need to make my point.

Linux

If you take a look at the first article I wrote yesterday you will notice it received more comments than the one that was Dug by the Zealots at Ron Paul 2008. Because it contained the word Ubuntu which is a cousin of Linux, which brings me to my second point. Digg has also been taken over by Linux Geek's who have taken it upon themselves to defend anything Linux and help anyone with a Linux/Ubuntu problem. Which is in itself a noble cause however, they will not comment on anything else.

So now we have the diggers and the Commenter's. All we need is to throw in some Stumblers in the equation add a pinch of panic  and Hey Presto! the perfect Headline.

Microsoft

Since I started using Stumbleupon to promote my Blog I realised that Stumbler's love Microsoft and any article that carries the Vista,XP windows story, wether positive or negative. Stumblers will definitely give a thumbs up to a good Microsoft story. and they love good  imagery / pictures.Stumbler's have a short concentration span and they don't hang around very long. So I will throw in a good comic from my favourite comic blog to spice up the article a bit.

Act Like a Professional

Free -

This is the one word I threw into the Mix for Google. Googler's love the word free. In fact free is one of the most expensive keywords to Bid for on Adwords. The reason is people who use the Internet love the word free. Free blogs, Free money, free hosting,Free is the Longest lasting Buzz word on Google that will never go away. Ad some flavour to your article with a pinch of Free here and there and you are guaranteed some search engine love from Google.

Kill

For dramatic effect I added a bit of kill in the headline to help grab some attention. Someone has to definitely kill something in any Good Drama.

Will Ron Paul Kill Microsoft for Linux free ?

Now all I need is some volunteers in the Blogosphere to cook up a story with this Headline. Any takers?

Damn clever headline. You got me to look, though I have no interest in Linux. I'll come back and learn from your site later.

I hope this isn't a sign the New Media has become as cynical as the Old Media, though.

Yeah, I kinda got an idea of what you mean. It's of the same vain. Trying to equate free to free? not too hard. The libertarian Thomas Friedman in his book "The World Is Flat" explains about open source that the free, collaborative effort of the world's most capable and most creative have developed the most effective means of free distribution of ideas on the planet. It's called open source.

Jaques Ellul explains in "The Technilogical Society" that all society works to eliminate all inefficiencies including, although Paul might not be so psyked about, capitalism. Property is a perfect principal until it rubs against our ability to create more freely. We're already there. And since Linus himself cannot run for president ( nor would an anarchist like him ever would ), all we can hope for is that a libertarian would.

Go Ron Paul, we love you!!!

End theocracy! End Fascism! End Central Banks and War!!!
