Hello, Entrecard Chain Dropper. You need Help.

The Entrecard phenomenon that is sweeping through the Blogosphere isn't all Good. The concept in itself is brilliant however the implementation is flawed.

In the real world How would you feel if the same company kept leaving their business card in your letter box? you would call it spam.

The problem with Entrecard chaindropppers is that although they are continuously visiting your site and dropping their cards on you, 95% of them will never stop and read an article or click through  a link or participate in anything that is happening on your blog.

They have one thing in mind drop as many cards as they can to collect as many points as they can, and then buy some advertising space from another Entrecard blog.

Indeed some of these chain droppers are so addicted they spend hours a day chain dropping instead of thinking of ways to improve the content on their blogs . Or read other blogs for that matter. Today its easy to find several highly rated Entrecard Blogs with Zero to rubbish content. These individuals actually find it easier to go around dropping their cards all day rather than sit down and think of something creative or unique to say.

I drop several cards a day myself. The difference is I have learnt to find my natural rhythm on Entrecard. I know spending several hours a day dropping cards is as futile as planting corn in Iceland. It is unsustainable unprofessional behaviour which will eventually stop. As more blogger's begin to realise that some blogger's only get traffic from chain dropping and have no other external sources of traffic. Thanks to Entrecard there are some blogs which otherwise would have died in obscurity.

I am now very wary of where I spend my Entrecard credits because I have realised some of the top blogs on Entrecard are only popular on Entrecard because they chaindrop. I check Alexa ranking and page rank first.

Blogger's Entrecarders and Stumblers, lend me your ears. I predict that in the next 12 months the price of advertising on Entrecard will drop significantly as more and more chaindropppers remember  who they are. They are blogger's and that's what they should be doing not chain dropping.

Just wanted to say that was a great post. I agree that there are some flaws in Entrecard and it is tough to say what will happen as it grows. At least there are some decent blogs on Entrecard.

I wonder about where EntreCard is headed and I am spending less time dropping my cards and more time writing. One thing that EntreCard is really good for is that it helps me find out what others are doing when I read their blogs.

Hi jeff interesting to note that i dont see an entrecard widget on your page. Have you dropped it?

Guilty as charged! But not completely.

There are actually so many different sites on Entrecard I can hit a lot of new sites and still get my high amount of drops. I try to hit my inbox first. Then I hit a different category each time. Plus I like to start at the bottom to get the new blogs.

I do stop and read. There are several things I look for first though before I stop to read.

Great post! You've made a very good point.

I have found a lot of new sites through Entrecard. I have read and commented on a lot of the articles because they caught my attention.
Admittedly, it's hard to stop clicking that yellow bar. I've been checking Alexa and Page Rank too, because I've noticed a lot of 0/10 or N/A sites with really high Alexa scores are big on Entrecard.

    Hello,

I carry a very small (~40) amount of cards that I visit and read. I keep the number low so I don't get overwhelmed by the shear volume. So far, it seems to be working very well for me.

Hey! All it take is to let something catch your eye. I tend to stop and read way to much, but then again I do this cause I enjoy it. I don't expect to get rich and famous from it at all. I think that is the problem everyone want to be the next dog chow or whatever his name is. I am fool.

    Great post.

I am in entrecarder, but pretty much use it as it was designed for. It has helped me find a lot of good blogs, at times I do 'drop and run' - but most times I sniff around.

I agree with most of what you've said here although it was because of Entrecard that I found this gem of a Blog :)

I use entrecard, but if I get to drop 20 cards a day I'm lucky. You are right, seo is where the money is, not in entrecard, but I do think that a brand new blogger can benefit, even if its only to get people to leave a few comments on their site. Entrecard is more for social networking, at least that's how I use it.

I let people advertise on my blog, and I advertise on others, but I've had few successful ad runs, so I'll use entrecard for a little while longer, and eventually I'll get bored and quit. Its better to use seocentro instead of alexa to determine search engine saturation for a blog that uses entrecard, because a blogger can miraculously lower their alexa rank just by dropping cards all day.

Ria Never heard of seocentra... and its true about the alexa ranking thanks for sharing.
