The Blog Readability Test - Ten Blogs Tested.

How readable is your blog? Do you need to be a genius to read or understand your blog or is your Blog elementary school standard? Which level of readability is better? Elementary or Genius. I discovered a smart little website that lets you do just that. This tool also works on myspace profiles, livejournals, facebook, and most websites.

I also tested a few of my favourite Blogs.

The Truth Will Set You Free

    1. COPYBLOGGER.COM -  You need a College or Post Graduate level, education to understand this blog.
    2. BLAUGH.COM - Almost anyone can understand this blog its Elementary School Level.
    3. PROBLOGGER.NET - No kidding if you are not a Genius don't even Think about going to Problogger. I dont think that's very good though since most of us are hardly anywhere close to being Geniuses.
    4. JIMKUKRAL.COM -  Another interesting and well written blog. An Elementary school education should get you through this one.
    5. STUFFEDDOG.COM - A high school level Blog. Makes for good reading and is very easy to understand.
    6. STEVEPAVLINA.COM - College Undergrad. a very decent level of readability for a very decent Blog.
    7. GEEKFROMKANSAS.COM - Junior High School level blogging from Kansas. Easy for all if not most to read.
    8. PERFORMANCING.COM - Another easy to understand blog well placed at the Junior high school readability level.
    9. MARKSPARK.COM - Mark Davies' must read African odyssey is a brilliant read only if you have a College degree
    10. DAYJOBNUKER.COM - One of my favourite blogs very well placed in the Junior High school readability level.

How important is you blog readability?

      -  The more readable your blog is the more it's appeal to a wider audience. A wider audience means more traffic, more traffic equals more money.Filling your blog with lots of technical babble will only drive people away, people who read blogs like a very simple straight forward easy to understand elementary school style read. I would have loved to say the the ones requiring a higher level of education are the cleverest or the best reads unfortunately, this is not the case. The best blogs are the ones who have a very low readability and great content. They go hand in hand.

    Hello,
the site you are talking of use a readability index. It is a algorithm that look for word and sentences length. Of course the more a sentence is long the more is hard to read. However readability is not a understandability. It does not analyze the semantic behind the text.
I believe that you were looking for understandability :) This type of index does not exists currently. It is more a research topic.
If you like to know more I have write a little post about the difference.

Well before you can understand something you need to be able to read it. Long words in long sentences don't make for easy reading.
